I know that I am way too trusting. I don't know why. You would think that after finding out 21 years into a marriage that it was all a joke to him that I wouldnt trust, but I do.

I had the problem earlier in life due to being to shy and non-confrontational. But now I am learning to stand up for myself, if only in a reserved and courteous manner.

Could it be, that they are Christians and are willing to turn the other cheek in order to help some one out?
Just because we are 'screwed over' by some one, doesnt stop them from trying to help anyone we can.
Those in need, do not care where the help comes from. And, its our Christian "duty" to help others, as we are judged by our "works" (Revelations).
You may call it "being screwed over by others", we call it Christian Love.
