It's returning on September 19th. Mariska Harigtay will be in the first two episodes and then her maternity leave starts. She'll be gone for about six episodes & then come back around the 8th one.
from what i've heard it's going to be a really good season!

I Love SVU!! The new season starts in september! She's in the 1st 2 episodes b/c they filmed them last spring, but then she won't be in anymore for a few weeks! She was talking about it on the emmy red carpet on sunday! ---Hope that helps

9/19, they have advertised the new season a few times already, ER also.
FYI - CI is 9/19 also and the original is 9/22
