Well, it certainly feels good to lie down on the couch on a sunny afternoon (maybe rainy, maybe cold, what the heck!!) and enjoy reading an ineresting piece of fiction. Any book that has haunted you for days, maybe years, making you recall reading it with affection? Mine was Alex Haley's autobiographical 'Roots'. I cried silently after reading it. It has this weird way of making the reader relate to the narrative after finishing it -I've desperately wished I could trace my ancestors the way Alex did. Tell me if u ever loved a book so dearly?

The book that haunt me a lot is actually written in XIX century, 'The Idiot' by Dostoevsky.

As for the XX century, i surely name 'The Master and Margarita' by Bulgakov, a book that i thought would torture me for months, but in fact pleased me all night long; and 'Steppenwolf' by Hesse, i read this book while hiding from all the family, in the darkness and stuff, because it was only a week after an accident in which i got concussion, and i wasnt allowed to read/watch tv/work with comp for a month. A really good time i was having while reading it! And i finally found it in german, so the next, not forbidden night of reading is coming!..

There are a lot of good ones out there. The best one I've found was King Fortis the Brave by LaMontagne and Snyder. It's about a pair of twins that are pulled into a magical land where they find themselves caught in the middle of a battle for control of the realm. The boy twin, Rodney, is mistaken for King Fortis, an Arthur-like figure that is to someday return in the time of the land's greatest need. It's really a great book full of humor and adventure. I recommend it to my students all the time and have had students that really hate to read come back and tell me how much they love it.

Everyone always badmouths this one but it is a wonderful read. First Blood by David Morrel yea the Rambo movie. But in all honesty this is a great book its psychological action chase suspense. It IS NOT THE MOVIE. Also Starship Troopers by Heimlich. These two are on my desert island choices.

There are so many to choose from......I would recommend "Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruis Zafon. Hard to choose a book that compelled me to change though.
