I went back to school when I turned 40. Now all of my school friends are 20 years younger than me. Should I give them my advice on their problems since I've already gone through most of it or should I just sympathize and offer support?

I think a good balance of both is appropriate. You can offer advice, but you must understand that they have not lived through the things you have & therefore they will not be able to take your advice in many instances. When they don't take your advice, simply be sympathetic and supportive. If you're unable to do this, then I'd recommend keeping your friendship with them casual.

Your college friends already have a mom.

You might come across as bossy if you try to "mother" them. Just be cool and supportive.

By the way, great job going back to school. You are going to love it.

there is not any clarification which you will maintain this friendship going. while your mom gets out of the well being facility, you will possibly desire to bypass to this so-referred to as buddy and bypass over what you describe right here. She owes you an apology, and if she would not supply one top away, bypass away. Block her from texting you or e-mailing you. Take her off your facebook internet site.

Give advice ONLY if they ask for it...Oh and congrats on going back to school. I just got my Associates Degree in June and I am 37. You go gurl!

Only if they ask for it, or only if it's imperative that they know something before they potentially really screw up.

Otherwise, just be supportive. You don't want to become that person who feels like they have to interject your personal experiences into everything, it gets irritating and sometimes people just need to be allowed to live, f*ckups and all. That's how we learn.

Just be there for them like you would with any other friend. That includes all of the above.

It depends on you. it is not necessary that you act like a mom. in my opinion you should act like friends.
