No one knows. It's all supposition at this point. Some say religion, some say boredom, some say it was simply a way to communicate with others, some say it was to record their...not history, but daily lives, and some don't care. There's no way of knowing, since that would require getting inside the thinking processes of the people who painted them, and since they had no writing, there is no way we are ever going to be able to do that.

i guess most of people who did cave art,were teenager. as we know,teenager(on the cave period till now) have lots of engergy and wanna declare to the world about what they know or how they feel. one way to explode that feeling is by write or draw something on the wall or wherever they can.
so i think cave people got the same feeling and wanna write or draw something so do on the cave wall.
i'm sure that they are the first generation that invented "graffii art"
maybe they are the man who create "hip hop" as well!
