Yep-the other day i was walking in the wilderness and i could "sense" someone was watching me though i scanned around and couldn't see anyone. I climbed to the top of a hill and saw down the other side a farmer, i treapsed after him and he apologized for interrupting my walk, he just wanted to see who i was on his land.
Explaination?
Attunative Collective Subconscious.
In Jung the species is collectively aware of itself on a subconscious level so when the farmer saw me i "felt" his sight of me through our connection in the collective. My Attunative nature makes me a little more tuned in so i can sense the other person. Not as looney as ya think. When two people have a fight (verbal) and they stop and go to their activity and continue watching tv or something and you enter the room you can "feel" the tension cant you. Not only is this body language, its residual collective feeling between them and your entry to the room attunes you to the collective and you FEEL the tense residue also.
This may also be am explanation for ghosts-they are not souls trapped but rather the manifestation of mood fuelled by the collective energies of the species at a point of distress. A murder in a house leaves the shadow of the person trapped fuelled by the collective unconscious' energy of disapproval of such an act hinging onto the residue of the act.
Ok, i'm rambling big time no so i better stop. But you get the picture right?

Yes, I can normally tell when this is happening. I never thought about it, it just seems natural, part of your body's defense mechanisms. This is a good question, though, and to be honest I wish I had a good answer I could back up with some sort of proof.
The only thing I have for you: there is energy all around us. Everyone can sense and manipulate it to some degree. Some people can draw it inward or change it, send it other people's way. I think everything, from small movements to strong emotions can be felt by others across great distances.

When someone is watching you, their look basically puts pressure on you. Their look spreads a certain type of energy that is concetrated on their object of interest: you. You feel this pressure and therefore you know.
I can tell when someone is looking at me because I basically feel pressure in the air around me.

It's basic instinct most people can feel when they are being watched because it's a built in sense.
