Find out anything you can about the show, story, character. Beyond that read, read, read. Read anything you can get your hands on out loud. Doesn't matter if it has no connection to the show, just read out loud. This will help you in whatever you have to read at the audition. When you go to the audition dress in clothes and shoes you can move in. Be polite. Be heard. NEVER apologize for a reading! Look and act confident. Above all TAKE DIRECTION. If they tell you to change something change it, don't talk about it, just change it. If you get the part I'd be happy to coach you further, provided my schedule would allow it. Break a leg!

I forgot to mention: Don't think of it as the LEAD character. All characters are worthy of equal craft. There is NO difference in preparing for a supporting role or even a bit part. Do your best work. As has been said "There are no small parts, only small actors"
BE HUGE!

First i have to assume your an actor or actress. Now I would think that you have acted prior to this audition. Then I would give you the advise to BE PREPARED. What I mean by that is mentally. You have to have yourself ready for ANYTHING when you get there. Be open of mind on your way there. When your given the script or character profile, try to identify that character to someone in your past or even some other character you have seen then MAKE IT YOUR OWN!! Now suck it up and go play the part.

I would STRONGLY recommend getting the book "Audition" by Micheal Shurtleff. It's chock full of very interesting advice from someone who has hired actors for years on Broadway. It is more theatre oriented but has an excellent section on cold readings and far too much advice and tips to list here.

Ask your acting teacher to coach you. Never audition for anything that important, unless you are coahced.
