Doesn't it drive you mad when you know you're right but the other person refuses to consider that a possibility? Doesn't it drive you mad when people make a HUGE deal about you making a small mistake??

It's pride. A very common trait. But we're all probably guilty of it. The best is when you have two proud people arguing, and both refuse to admit their wrong, or even kind of wrong, and both demand the other admit to being wrong.
Often it's best just to communicate your point and move on. Often even if people don't admit their wrong, they register what you say, and will change. Try and give them the benefit of the doubt.
Keep in mind there are many people in the world who will argue with others, just to attain the satisfaction of getting another person to admit they're wrong. That's why no one ever wants to admit to it.
Compassion before all things.

This is a notable design flaw/feature of human nature!
There are people in jail who drive parole boards mad in exactly this way, by refusing to admit their guilt even when the evidence has passed the stern requirements of a criminal conviction.
And look at how mad people are getting over Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Osama Bin Laden and Kim Jong Il. What about Hitler, Stalin, Mao, ... - history records any number of high-profile wrongdoers who stubbornly believed in themselves to the bitter end, regardless of being way out of order in any reasonable person's view. There are some who dare even to suggest that wonderful people like George Bush and Tony Blair have this problem.
But, at least anyone you know who has this problem can say "Hey, this isn't going to hold me back in life".

I don't find it amusing when I have to deal with the consequences of them being wrong. Yes I'm talking about my husband. He feels he has the right to make mistakes and insist that he's done no wrong. Even when it's painfully obvious. Then I have to help him fix whatever it is and deal with the results. For example all the times he's insisted he knew how to fix our cars himself then completely fried them.

You're right, that will drive you crazy. And it is a little comical, if you can keep your sense of humor. My daughter, now 20, has been doing it since she was in the first grade. For example, I was charged with replacement price for three movies she rented, took to a friends house, and never returned. Her position is, it's the friends fault that I'm having to pay for the movies because she didn't return them. I tried for 2 months to convinced her that the return was her responsibility, to no avail. In fact, she's almost got me convinced that she's right.

I feel sorry for people like that, thier lives must be full of denial and make belief. The question is do you want to be right or happy?. I choose happy every time. People who do not know when to back down spend so much time reasuring them selves, how sad is that.

Dr Phil calls them "right fighters," because they are always fighting to prove themselves right even if they and everyone around them knows they're wrong.
You meet these people everyday and it's just a great weakness and insecurity on their part that they can't admit when they're wrong.

Some people just can't be wrong, even if they're telling you that the sky is green and the grass is blue, they will latch on to anything to prove they are right.
