Injustice is one reason. The people who founded the U.S. bridled under the thumb of the English King. They did something about it. Suffering is also a great motivator. Countless scientists and doctors have dedicated themselves to eradicating disease and needless loss of life. Instances that come to mind are the vaccines for smallpox and polio and the invention of penicillin. People who are dedicated to an ideal are the only ones who will ever effect change. That is why the current administration is failing so horribly. They lack the vision to make positive things happen, so they blunder on and tens of thousands suffer and die as a result.
