Yesterday I wore a pair of sterling silver earrings. I took them out when I got home from work and noticed my left ear was a little red and swollen on the ear lobe. Today it is still very swollen and is even tender and swollen behind my ear on my neck. Any suggestions?

Do you clean your earings before you put them in? If not you may have introduced bacteria into the hole. What I'd do is first clean that ear lobe with rubbing alcohol, and then clean the earings with rubbing alcohol, put a little vasaline on it and put it thru the earing hole again, then remove it. Then use ice on the ear. This "should" take care of the infection, but if it continues to be red or hurt then see a doctor. There could be an unknown cause for this swelling.

Get to your doctor! You either have an infection or an allergic reaction or sensitivity to the silver. Because this redness and swelling is spreading, I wouldn't delay getting medical help. You may be one of those persons who is extremely sensitive to nickel or other metals, and have to be restricted to wearing gold posts or those made of plastic. There are also some earrings that are labeled "hypoallergenic". You might also try those.

I would say that you are alergic to sterling silver. Take out the earrings and let it clear up and try gold.

Sounds as if you're allergic to sliver..Treat the ear with antibotic cream....Don't use silver rings anymore

When I have those issues, I put alcohol or perioxide on them. Give it a couple of days and if it isn't any better see doc. might be infected.
