Accepted by whom?
For me, I would LOVE to get revenge on all the people who did me wrong, but my Christian background says I need to "turn the other cheek" and forgive.
It is soooo hard to do, but I think it's the best way to live. If Revenge were an acceptable action to everyone everywhere, then we would probably wind up throwing ourselves into the biggest global war ever!

Yes, by some. Our culture believes in revenge, hence the popularity of the death penalty, our transparent lies used as an excuse to bomb the crapola out of innocents abroad, but when critics bring focus to our actions/reactions or WE start dying, we sing a different song. Revenge is not, from my point of view, MORALLY acceptable, but it is POPULARLY acceptable.

Accepted by many, apparently including yourself. Accepted or not, revenge is the lowest state possible in human consciousness - not only doing harm to another, but feeling self-righteous about it. It is also totally against what Jesus taught.

I agree with Turd Ferguson.
If I don't exact a brutal, memorable act of revenge against someone who crosses me, I can't sleep for weeks.
On the other hand, I have fond memories of brutalizing someone and their loved ones, in retaliation for a sleight twenty years ago.
The more vicious your act of revenge, the better, because it serves as a warning to everyone else.

No. Revenge is a self-perpetuating cycle of hatred.
However it is acceptable to retaliate in an attempt to eliminate your attacker's ability to attack. You can't make your enemy stop hating you, but you can make it hard for him to hurt you.
