A Blue collar worker? Well, that pretty much leaves all of California out - well maybe the central coast. Well, I shouldn't assume you don't make anything.. you might be a dock worker or some sort of Teamster.

central to southern oregon, or nothern washington in the pennensula along the real coast (not the sound).
Of course, this might not be the kind of weather or beach you are looking for .. but its lovely and rustic and rugged!!

Leucadia, or Oceanside both places are wonderful towns to live in and the great thing rent is still inexpensive

Tofino,,,Vancouver Island,,its as far west as you can go in canada,very scenic and also has a long beach area.
