You should support equal rights for everyone, because whenever anyone doesn't have equal rights, everyone's rights are in danger.
Like that old quote.. when they came for the gays, the retarded, etc., I did not speak out, and when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out...
Justify your disagreement.

For those who believe that their rights will never be violated because they're good Christian American Patriots, they will find that people may discriminate for other reasons... For example, everyone today feels safe from discrimination for being white, but the next time there's a potato famine in Ireland, they may discover they have to be the "right" white. Or only one particular sect of Christianity. Or that they can't have sexual interaction with their spouses unless it will produce a child... etc. Remember sodomy laws? You probably broke them, and you weren't arrested only because they weren't enforced for "good white Christian Patriots", only for homosexuals.

A society of homosexuals would become extinct? They need to engage in heterosexual intercourse to survive?
We're not covered in hair from head to toe anymore, we're smart enough, and have been for a long time, that a little sperm and a woman are all that's necessary to make a baby, and homosexual women often artificially inseminate. Not to be mean, but if you can't figure that out, how could you figure out that pressing the buttons on the typewriter forms words on the screen?

Rights as it were are an evolving matter in society. For instance, the right to worship any way you like is not as clear as it might seem. If you do not conform to society as society changes and you change, you become persecutable with hidden rules like the privacy act that restricts quota enforcement in minority creeds because it makes it legal to hide one's religion. By having the religions of people hidden, nobody can keep track of how many creed representatives that a unit of hire has promoted and thereby the creed discrimination can continue in full force. If I don't support the equality of other discriminatory practice restrictions, nobody will support mine. But mine, however hard it is to understand when I don't support others, would be ignored if I don't show that I at least think others are worthy too.

I have no problem with equal rights for everyone, but I have a BIG problem with special treatment. Affirmative action is reverse-discrimination and shouldn't be allowed. Providing welfare to people who can't find a job and are trying to work is a good thing, but continuing to hand money over to people who refuse to work is a different story altogether. People should not be subject to discrimination because of things that are beyond their control (race, gender, physical/mental disability, etc.) and we have a responsibility to take care of those who can't take care of themselves, but that shouldn't apply to people who are who or what they are because of choices they have made (alcoholics, drug addicts, criminals, homosexuals, etc.). If you choose not to work, then why should you be allowed to eat? If you choose to break the law, why should we coddle you and put you up in a facility that by all rights is better than the slums that a lot of hard-working Americans live in because they can't afford a better home? If you choose to drink and/or do drugs, why should we waste taxpayer money on you when you're willingly throwing your own life away? And if you choose to be gay, which is contrary to the laws of nature (a colony of all gay men and women is doomed to extinction, and if they engage in sexual intercourse to survive, then they admit by their very actions that their sexual preference is wrong), why should you be given the same consideration as heterosexual couples?

We only have those rights we choose to defend. Only those rights we can defend. And we're never defending the rights of others. We're defending the rights themselves.
--- In honor of Pastor Martin Niemöller:
First they came for the 6th Amendment, but I hadn't been accused of a crime, so I didn't object to denial of counsel.
Then they came for the 4th Amendment, but I wasn't talking to anyone overseas, so they wouldn't be monitoring me.
Then they came for the rest of the 4th Amendment, but I only called my mother, so there was nothing suspicious in my phone records.
Then they came for the 1st Amendment, but I never associated with criminals, so I didn't worry about being convicted purely based on what other people might do.
Then they came for the 14th Amendment, but I never really understood the rules for Due Process (and wasn't allowed an attorney), so I didn't object.
Then they came for the rest of the 1st Amendment, but I never told anyone about what the government was doing, so again I remained silent.
Then they came for the 5th Amendment, ...... and I no longer had the right to remain silent.

I couldn't agree more. I was once forced to testify against myself for a crime I didn't commit. There went the 5th Amendment. The police broke into my house and collected evidence with no proof. There went the 4th Amendment. When we went to war the military quartered soldiers in my house. There went the 3rd Amendment. When I tried to defend myself they took away my gun. There went the 2nd Amendment. When I tried to protest they said shut up or go to prison. There went the 1st Amendment.
Any one of these situations leads to the taking away of eveyone's rights. I shudder to think how much this goes on without our knowing.

False line of reasoning.
I could imagine you asking that same question in Nazi occupied Germany when gypsies, gays, and jews were getting murdered in Concentration camps.
By your line of thought, supporting the rights of Jews, etc. would not be just because there really wouldn't be anyone else to speak out for the poor innocent Aryans who aren't getting the attention.
