I don't think there should be a specific cut-off age, as all people are different. However, after 70 perhaps, a yearly test would be a good idea. Maybe after 75 or so, change it to every 6 months.

No likes to admit that they're no longer capable of doing something, therefore a voluntary system would never work. I think the gov. should be stepping in on this one.

People are individuals- that is what the test is for. I'm not sure how old you are but 65 year olds as a general rule are still perfectly capable of driving, and there skills are not diminished in anyway. When I talked to DMV recently (my son got his permit) they said that the average age they see a diminished ability is 72, but some earlier and some much later. I truly believe there are some people who are my contemporaries that have no business driving right now in their 30 & 40's.

At the age they can no longer pass the same test we all had to take when we started (granted, for seniors, their test may have been a bit different back then). I think EVERYONE should have to take an exam every 10 years. 5 would be better, but we all know that each trip to the Driver's license office can shorten your lifespan by 1-5 years, depending on your location. Still there are some baaaaaad drivers out there.

Oh my gossshh!!!! Yes!!! I think it varies for every individual, but you see these elderly people that can barely walk through a store, get into the parking lot, slowly get into their car, and drive away. It's kind of scary actually. My neighbor will ask who you are when you're standing a foot from her because she can't see you, but then drive into town all the time...I've seen her drive too....it's not good at all! I think there needs to be a renewal test involved!

I do not think there should be a certain cutoff age....But I do think that after 50 they should get road tested for free every two years, and I think after 60 that should jump up to once a year and after 70 they should be every six months...I dont think they should have to pay for it....but they should be road tested more often....I am a school bus driver...I just started and I am ony 23...I have been driving for my district for 2 years and the senior driver in almost 70....but she drives great...she does the exact speed limit and she follows every single rule of the road......and she gets road tested through the state for our job like every other driver every single year......

Personally think that the driving test to get your licsence should be much more hard. Because not only are old people who drive to slow a problem so are teens who drive to fast. Personally i would never had passed myself. I before and after a certain age you should regularly have to prove that you are competant behind the wheel.

As long as they can still see and hear properly and as long as their reflexes still work, then I don't see a problem with it. But I agree with you on the other point. After the age of about 65, they should have their vision, hearing and reflexes tested. And if they fail any one of those, then their licenses should be revoked. I'm not saying this to be nasty, but I've heard of instances of people being injured or killed by getting hit by cars driven by old people.

I believe a senior should be able to keep their driving privileges, as long as they are capable of the responsibility. Granted, their motor skills are not as sharp as younger drivers. Therefore I believe a review every (six) months would be sufficient for seniors sixty-five years or older.

Yes, at 65 people shouldn't drive cars. We have someone who takes care of us who is a senior that shouldn't drive.
Course if she couldn't who would take us around. How would they get to the store? anyone who has a license should do the driveing. Like we could drive it. For all old people they should have teen agers learning to drive, drive them around. vic
