No, you can set up a similar user on both machines and give the one on the XP machine the right to print on that local printer so long as you share the printer on the 2000 box.

Turn everything on - the printer must be shared - add a new printer from your XP machine - specify that it's a network or remote printer - make sure you give it the same name as it has on the 2000 achine and you should be able to get it going. The Help app on the Start menu comes in handy if you use it.
