It's not really that bad. The initial pain is slightly intense, but it lasts seconds not days. Mine was a little sore for a couple of days, but totally tolerable. After that it was fine.
It took only a couple of weeks to heal completely and aftercare was extremely easy. A little bit of antiseptic soap on a q-tip worked really well. All you do is clean the inside and outside and make sure crusty things don't build up. As long as you take care of it, it won't get infected. I have had mine for 2 years now and have never had a problem.
Another tip would be to talk to your piercer to clear up any concerns before you go through with it. They are the true experts and they will be able to help a great deal.
I hope this helps!

I'm not sure how painful it is seeing that I have never gotten it done.. but I'd like to get it done sometime just a little stud would look cute! ♥
As far as the pain goes I think it really depends on the person and how much pain they can take or how they deal with pain.. to one person it may be painful as hell and another person who is not as sensitive to pain.. that is why you are hearing mixed reactions. I really don't know the risks of infections when getting your nose pierced.. but here is an INFORMATIVE site that may able to give you some factual information on the subject
http://www.navelring.com/information/nosepiercinginfo.htm
But most importantly.. make sure where ever you are getting it pierced its very sterile and clean ans the piercer is following usual procedure.. nothing weird (thats where you can get an infection) Once you have gathered all of your information.. I say go for it! = )

Lady Beth,
The bigest thing to worry about in nose piercing is not infection. That can be taken care of with care. The problem is that sometimes people experience a scar after you decide to quit weaing it. A scar on your nose would be terrible. So make sure that whoever does it for you has a clean needle and is a professional. As far as it hurting you, it's only a pinch, you can handle that.

In my opinion, Yes, MOST of the bad stuff you hear is a result of poor aftercare, or poor piercing techniques. If you go to the right place, and take care of it properly, you'll be fine.
I had my nose pierced almost a year ago.
With regards to pain, I had very very little. Kellen (my piercer) had me take a deep breath and wait for his cue to exhale, when I exhaled, he stuck the needle through. It was just a slight pinch...and my eye (only the right one) watered a little bit.
I followed the aftercare instruction sheet he gave me and I had absolutely no problems with it.
Just make sure you go to a reputable place and follow the aftercare, and all will be well.
Good Luck!

I've had my nostril pierced 3 yrs. now. I got it pierced professionally & he did it with a needle. It didn't hurt at all!!!. All I felt was a lil' pressure. It was a lil' sore afterwards, but I haven't had any problems with it. The piercer should give you aftercare instructions verbally, & also on paper...My piercer suggested me washing it with Dial antibacterial soap, & sea salt soaks...Just do as directed, & don't wash it TOO much, that can cause damage as well...You should be fine, I say -- go for it!! :)
P.S. I don't suggest getting it done by a piercing gun!!. With a needle it's safer, & a needle is more accurate. Piercing guns are dangerous!!
Here's a site that tells you about piercing guns...

Good luck!!

DONT USE A PIERCING GUN. that will leave you with scar tissue and infections and bad placement. A tatoo/piercing shop shouldnt be using a gun for ANY piercing. If they do, leave!! It hurts with the initial needle going through, but once it's through its fine. It heals quickly, and doesnt stay sore. As long as you keep it clean you will be fine. I dunno wtf about the infection going to your brain, it sounds like b.s. and i know alot about piercing. Go to a good piercer and you'll be fine. A few seconds of pain is worth it. I have 2 of them and i love them.

NOT REALLY OUT OF 1-10 I GIVE IT A 5 YOU JUST FEEL A STINGING FEEL AT THE END BUT IT GOES A WAY IF YOU DON'T BOTHER IT .WHILE DOING IT ITS SO QUICK LIKE A SNAP WITH THE GUN .
WITH THE NEEDLE IT'S A LIL MORE PAIN TO IT I GIVE IT A 7 IT WILL BRING TEARS TO YOUR EYES
I PIERCED MY NOSE MYSELF WITH A NEEDLE THE FIRST TIME AND THEN GOT A SECOND HOLE WITH A GUN

I did it at home. It's hurts - I won't kid ya about that. And I'm not baby cuz I have a few tats. The worst of it is that you'll try to sleep on that side, or wash your face and it will "smart" again. Takes a while to heal - just keep the ring in

I thought the whole idea of piercings and tatoos was the spiritual nature of getting them. Such as the euphoria a person feels when a serious pain goes away.

its a small insignificant pain that lasts for about 30 seconds, you can also go to a good salon that offers a small general pain reliever before the piercing, only do it if you are certain you want it, i have mine done three times and its not a problem honestly
good luck
