I just left the emergency room for severe back and abdominal pain. They did an ultrasound on me and have sent me for a consult with a specialist at 2:30 est. I heard the technician tell the nurse that ! was probably overdue. I have had no symptoms and have had periods(light ones) all year. I am a big girl and thought I was having gas and normal aches( I am 40) A pelvic was done and no one has discussed anything else with me just that I have to go to a Perinatologist asap. I have no time for jokes, please be serious

thanks so much to the person who said stupid people and to the person who said mentally ill. I repeat I have had periods and no other symptoms other than gas and back pain until today when I began to have abdominal pain. I took 3 pregnancy test this year that came back false and had my regular GYN tell me It was anxiety when I passed out 2 x's and had mild nausea in January. the nurse here in the center has been explaining to me my inability to feel movement properly is probably caused by scar tissue from a 15 year old accident as well as nerve damage from it. The ER sent me here to do some Pre-op prep with the doctor's staff and a 3D ultrasound so they can get around the scar tissue. Thank You to the compassionate people whose answers have helped me to calm down and not feel crazy at trying time. The baby's father died in Baghdad in January. I Thank those of you who showed insight.

It does happen. Not often, but it does happen. I've heard of people doing multiple home pregnancy tests with negative results and having babies a few months later. It does happen.
I'd imagine that given your age, your doctor probably blew you off and said it was perimenopausal symptoms. May be time to get a new doctor. If you have a lot of abdominal scar tissue, I would imagine your sensations might be different. Also, do you have other children?
Good luck to you.

It sometimes happens with extremely overweight people, but not detecting a pregnancy shows a very strong disconnect between you and your body which is not normal. You may want to get counselling, as this can be a sign of some deeper psychological issues.
I doubt that no one has discussed this with you in the emergency room. You need to seriously considrer that you are blocking this whole pregnancy out with your mind. This type of avoidance could be extremely harmful to you and your baby.
Did you become pregnant through a traumatic event? The doctors would have sat you down and told you that you were pregnant, and asked you LOTS of questions about the last 9 months and told you about their concerns and advice.

it is not likely they would miss a full term pregnancy but it has happened to some big woman most likely they want you tested because you are overdue for a pap or something like that 40 is not old age in fact most woman are waiting till there 40 + before they even try to have a baby so wait for the results and take it from there oh hey if you were full term they would have told you right away and advised you on what to do hope this helps.

Yes, I heard of this. A woman my mom knew, thought she was having bad heartburn, gas and severe back pain. So, an ambulance arrived and on the way to the hospital, she had a baby. They were shocked to say the least! She was a big gal as well, so she thought nothing of it. This was also their first baby(they were told they could not concieve), so she did not know what to expect or what a baby felt like inside. It is possible. I hope all is well, and I wish you the best. Bless you!

I've heard of it.
I'm surprised you don't actually ASK QUESTIONS when you go to the emergency room, you're not 5 yrs old.
Perinatologist is a high risk pregnancy doctor so yes, you are pregnant and there may be some complications. Maybe because you haven't had prenatal care at all and God knows what else you've exposed your baby to during pregnancy by not knowing you are pregnant.
Good luck.

Wow...I have never heard of that. I would think it would be possible for someone to have it go un noticed for a few months but not the entire thing. Even if you are a bigger person you still should have felt something.
As for the periods it is possible to have periods through out the entire pregnancy. Especially if they are light.
Take a pregnancy test and see what it says!

A munber of tests were acrried out on her and it turned out to everyone's suuprise she was nine months preganat and about to deliver. She said she had no idea since she used birth control pills. Yes, I have heard about people who don't know that they are pregnant and go full term and have a healthy baby. Lots of times it happens to overweight people and people close to menopause. It seems that people just write off the symptoms of pregnancy as something else ie gas, menopause, or they just don't have any symptoms. Anyway, congrats and enjoy your bundle of joy.

I have not heard of full term, but I was almost 5 months before I stopped having periods. ...I had noticed a difference in my periods and the weight gain, but I was in a bad relationship and didn't want to be pregnant so mine was partial denial. Couldn't deny it anymore once the baby started moving.
I hope everything works out alright for you.

Yes i have heard of that, i've never known anyone personally that has had that happen, but it is more common than most people think. I have even heard of normal(not light like you experienced) menstral flow through the entire pregnancy, with no other signs.
