I have a brand new 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Just this week, when my car sits for about 4 hours, I start it up and there is a horrible loud squealing noise from the front right of the car. It lasts about 3 to 5 seconds and is gone. If I start my car after a couple minutes or while the engine is still warm, there is no sound. There are no other problems besides that. It doesn't sound like a fan belt squeal. It almost sounds like there is something getting caught in the fan and shredded up while it's squealing. I have only had the car for a month. I knew I shouldn't have gotten rid of my Toyota Corolla!!!

Any ideas??? Of course if I take it to the dealer, the noise won't happen unless it sits for hours. I just need something to get me started to figure out what is wrong...

Sounds like it is probably a loose belt. Just take it to the dealership and ask if they can tighten the belt a little. Tell them it is making a little noise. It shouldn't take too long and it will be covered by the warranty.

It is probably a belt slipping, they are hard when cool and softer when warm so get a better grip when warm.get the dealer to send a mechanic to you so he can check it before you start it.Dont take any notice of Mel,he's drunk again.

you have a belt slipping. it could be loose belt, something getting seized up, or oil or coolant leaking on the belt. there is a product for sale at local parts store called belt dressing or anti squeek.i would take it tothe dealer for warranty repair just in case it is something going bad.

Its sounds like your car should still beunder warranty. So if it is the best thing for you to do is not do anything to it yourself and take it to the dealership to be looked at. You don't want to mess up your warranty by doing anything yourself.

belts are slipping. tighten belts, or replace. bar soap will stop the squeak temporarily but is not a permanent fix!

i had a problem like that too once and it only happened every so often. it was my alternator. only did it when the car started. could be the problem you're having.
