I think we are bound to...especially if we keep on the road we are going as a nation. The rich get richer and poor get poorer while the middle class just stays middle class.

We celebrate violence and adultery and give no thought to what we are leaving for the future generations. We kill babies and and save the whales.

We are a country that has forgotten where we came from. Now, we are a country of illegal immigrants, screaming minorities, corrupt politicians, violent criminals and also those few brave sould who decide to live their life with some kind of integrity.

All empires and civilizations fall. They all have a discernable lifecycle. America (as it is defined today) is certainly on the decline, which begun when the frontier was closed in the early twentieth century. When will it end? Who knows? But it is not likely to last as long as Rome. The US is only 200 years old, Rome lasted over 1500 years.

I think so. As is, we are in chaos most of the time, and that is where it starts. Despite all our technology, andour advances, as actual people we have not done much to advance on a personal level. Yes we go to school, and can actually read and write and do math, and a long list of things besides, but when it comes to how people react to other peoples opinions, despite ours being a country of free will and thought, of freedom, it hasn't quite happened. Oh, we are free to express ourselves once we're out of school and as long as we're not working for someone who is worried about their image and that of their companies, but that doesn't take away the lack of tolerance.

That's what it all boils down to. Until we can learn to let people have thier opinions without shooting them down because theirs is a differing one from ours, then any empire will falll. Just becasue the world is so globalized doesn't mean it will prevent the fall of America- it'll just cushion it a bit.

Afterall, In the Human Civilized Histroy, We haven't been a major power for very long- it wasn't until after World War II that we came to be a major power, and before Wordl War I, we were a thrid world country.

The Roman Empire was social, cultural, political and economic.
The American Empire is largely more of a federation of agreements or is solely economic (i.e. corporate controlled rather than politically controlled.)

So the question is irrelevant and unanswerable.

of course, every empire throughout history has collapsed, why should the US be different

the Chinese believed there was a cycle - an empire was started by a ruler who was talented and hard-working. Later emperors would become more and more lazy and corrupt until eventually a new ruler would rise up, overthrow the empire, and establish a new one starting the cycle over again

Yeah, I do think the American "empire" will fall down one day because nothing last forever.

Not really, Rome fell apart because of political instability, foreign invasion, and reduced tax revenue. Plus the rise of 'Barbarism'. I dont think the USA has to cope with those on any comparable scale.
