technically if u have a 16x burner drive then u can support dvd's tht have 16x capability
u can also use 8x or even 4x
i recommend using a lower speed whn trying to burn on to a disc
if the speed of the drive is 16x use 8x this way u can be assured that it will be written to sucessfully, even though it will take longer
unless ur dvd was jammed in the drive or blew up into pieces(hey..it has happened in the past) i dont think u damaged it..try uninstalling the device and reboot and let windows worry about the rest, but do keep a copy of the driver just in case
hope this helps

If you are using nero and overburn is enabled but not supported by your burner then this takes the opital head on the burner beyond is preset range which can result in damage to the lens itself if the drive is not going into spin up mode when you insert a dvd then this is the case you can use x2 to x16 in your drive x8 is the ideal disk speed as it gives your processor a bit more time to send the data to the buffer in your burner so you get less data/bad sectors on your burned disk the max capacity data you can safely put on the disk is about 4.3 gb hope to have been able to help you

A 16x burner will accept any media up to 16x, however, the slower you burn the disk, the less chance of errors. Nero is especially prone to buffer overruns that pixilate video. Try convertx -- we've had much better luck with it.
