Not during. But after it does. During the recovery.

You don't feel any real bad pain. You don't feel them cut you.Yes there is pulling, tugging, and if you can see it in the mirror above you it makes you feel kinda sick just to know what they're doing to you. But the joy when you see your baby makes you forget all about it and makes it not so bad. Then afterwards you are trying to take care of a newborn AND recover from major surgery which was harder than enduring the c-section. My advice would be to take it easy and don't try to do too much while you recover. Sit and hold your baby as much as possible. Forget the housework or whatever. Take all the help that is offered to you. And sleep all you can while your baby sleeps. Good Luck!

When you go to have the actual C-section no it does not hurt but when they go to pull the baby out you may feel a little tug but it will not hurt at all.

The pain comes during recovery, the worst part is getting out of bed for the first time and after the only pain I really had a problem with was getting in and out of bed.

Everyone is diffrent. For some the pain can last for a week or weeks and for some the pain only last a few days and is not as severe. I was only in real bad pain the first two days, after that I was up walking all around the hospital and my doctor kept getting on me then when I cam home 5 days after having my son my mom kept getting on me for going up and down steps..I really recovered quickly.

My mom on the other hand had 3 C-sections and the least time she was in pain was for 2 weeks.

During the procedure in itself you'll be given spinal anesthesia; this will numb all pain-receptor nerves from your waist down, so you won't feel any pain; the only thing you'll feel is the sensation of being touched from the inside [much like you feel the baby moving and kicking inside your uterus, you feel the kicks but it doesn't hurt]. However, a C-section is major abdominal surgery; as the anesthesia wears off a few hours after the procedure, then you'll start to feel some major pain, specially during the first 24-48 hours. For this reason, your doctor will write standing orders for pretty potent narcotics to be given to you for relief of post-surgery pain. Ask the nurse to administer your medication at the first sign of pain; don't wait until you'll doubled over to ask for the medication, because it won't be as effective in providing relief if you wait too long. These medications are to be given at 3-4 hour intervals; if you notice that you aren't given them on time, ask to talk to the nursing supervisor. As a nurse, I believe that my patients deserve to be as comfortable as possible when recovering from surgery; it's my duty to provide pain relief medications on time around the clock, because this promotes a more speedy recovery with less complications. I wish you and your baby the best of luck, and hope that my advise has been of help and comfort. Don't hesitate to contact me using the link provided in my profile if you need further help; I'll be more than happy to help in any way possible.

During the c-section you can feel some tugging and puling...but no pain. Afterwards the recovery pain is there, but drugs help...the first 24 hours are the worst...then it actually wasn't that bad. I knew I was having one and I was prepared....my Dr said my quick recovery was due to a vey positive mental attitude....I knew I had to have one and I wasn't going to let that interfere with anything........

Whew. I has a c-section after 3 vaginal deliveries. I could feel all the tugging and pulling during the procedure. I didn't feel any cutting though....It only hurts after wards when you have to move around....The best advice in recovering is to move your legs as soon as you can and coughing and breathing in as deep as possible...I wish I had this advice before.

I had a c-section with my son 4 years ago and didn't feel a thing except for the coldness in the room. I was given pain meds to take afterwords but never needed them. I am planning a c-section with this one and I hope it goes as smoothly, but have heard the more you have the harder it is

I've had 2 c-sections, and I did feel some abdominal pressure as they were taking my babies out. All in all, I preferred my c-sections to my natural birth. My recovery time was actually shorter because my episiotomy took a very long time to heal and be comfortable again.

During the procedure it is not as painful as the healing. Please make sure that when you take little one home you have lots of hands around you to help support you as a mom and a woman that needs to heal from a major operation.

Good Luck and Take Care

No it does NOT hurt .. you are so numb from the medication that you just feel kind of out there. I mean you know what's going on but you can't really feel it. It does feel like you're having something taken from you but YOU ARE .. it doesn't hurt AT ALL though so don't be scared if that's what you're planning.

Ummm.. they're slicing into your stomach, love. It may not hurt during the operation itself, cuz you'll be on meds, but I can guarantee it will hurt like hell afterwards. But the joy of seeing your newborn will probably drown out most of that pain ;o)
