I was at Victorias secret last night with my husband
and was trying on their new line of corsets and bustiers.
I am a 34+26+38 ( which btw is pretty slender )

And man am i glad to have an Hourglass shape!
(btw hourglass shape is a figure where the hips
rib cage, and shoulders are much wider than the waist )

You know there are just some pieces of Lingerie
that just look so much better on an hourglass
body. And Corsets are one of them.

Some things look better on a Straight up and
down body as well, esp chemises.

Have a look in comparison-

Yes, as the others have mentioned, corsets are supposed to *give* you the body shape, not just "look good on it"....

And to confuse the issue even more....there are actually different body shapes (called tapers) on the corsets that actually *do* modify the shape of the body:

--hourglass taper...this is more common on your Victorian-inspired designs, and also gentler on the body if your main concern is to train your waist down smaller, as it leaves the *most* room for your ribcage....
--Wasp taper....this is also somewhat common and well known as it is the body shape most folks see in your classic, old-school Western movies, around the 1950s....it is also the most common "fetish" style of corseting and the one, in my humble opinion that is most attractive, but it can be rougher on the ribcage...
--Straight-front, or Edwardian...this would be your "straight and narrow" body type, and it is ok for light-duty, occasional use but not really safe for waist training as it leaves next to no room for your floating ribs or your liver, as has been historically documented to the point of *overkill*.

But don't just take my word on it:

From the measurements i'd say you had an hourglass figure, as there's a significant distinction between both measurements :) 25.5 is an astonishing waist length and there is not any way you'll desire a corset, even with the undeniable fact that it received't do you a lot damage if this is in ordinary words 2 inches :)

I agree, but the purpose of a corset is to give an hourglass shape, at least the real ones do.

One thing that women w/ hourglass shapes should be aware of is after you have children your hips will be soooo wide....and pointy.
