This was an original idea.

“This was the first movie that I ever sold”, said Jeffrey Reddick. “It was a tough sell”. Why, I asked? Reddick answered that it seems it was too different, too original. “They said ‘you have to have a killer, a person’”. I wouldn't believe it even if it said "Based on a true story" at the beginning of the movie. "Paranormal" is a word that should be removed from the dictionary.
