I saw a public speaker one time.
Capt' Gerald Coffee
He spent about 7 years in isolation in a 3' x '6' cell during the Vietnam war. The only contact he has was when they would slide food under the door, or come in a beat him.
He eventually developed a code with the other POWs where they would tap on the walls to communicate. (They were not allowed to talk, and were severely beaten is caught)
It's an amazing story of survival.
You can read about him at: http://www.captaincoffee.com/

If your not talking about being imprisoned in solitary confinement or being trapped in some way such as a cave, I think a lot of people could and have lasted indefinitely, as long as they had the physical necessities for survival. They're called hermits, and sometimes I think I'd enjoy that kind of life myself. Some people just don't need or want others around, and there are times when I would be happy with just such a life myself.

I think that that really depends upon that particular person. If they are not social than probably longer than say the high school football player. (yes I know that that is a bias statement but you get the point.)
