I just saw the movie invincible, the vince Papale story. I noticed that they ended the movie after he scored his first touchdown. I admire Papale for his determination and heart, but does anyone know if he did any other significant things while playing for the eagles?

As of Sept 8, 2004, Vince Papale was (and perhaps, still is) the regional director of marketing and senior account executive for higher- education marketing at Sallie Mae.

The 54 year old die-hard Eagles fan had never played football in college and only one year in high school. While teaching at his alma mater, Interboro High in Philadelphia, he joined a former minor league football team - the Philadelphia Bells.

Then Eagles coach Dick Vermeil was having a private workout and invited the 30 year old Papale to attend. He made the team and lasted for three years (1976-1978), being voted Special Teams Captain and "Man of the Year" by the Eagles in 1978 for his many charitable activities. A shoulder injury ended his career in 1979. He was a key contributor on the special teams coverage unit and also saw some action as a wide receiver.

After retiring from the NFL, he worked as a radio and TV broadcaster for eight years, then became a commercial mortgage broker.

Papale is a cancer survivor and donates a lot of time to charities dealing with cancer and is a national spokesman for colorectal cancer prevention.
