The raw fish (sashimi) is GREAT for you. The problem with sushi is the vinegared white rice. White rice is very high on the glycemic index, which means eating it can cause an insulin spike and cause your body to store those carbs as flab. Now, everything is relative, so if you're choosing between dinner at the sushi bar and dinner at Outback, you're DEFINITELY better off at the sushi bar. If you're that concerned about your figure, just eat half the rice or skip the rice altogether.

It depends :

1) should be real fresh and prepared properly
2) how much you eat and what you eat (rice is carbohydrate), raw shrimps / clams / scallops contain less fat then tuna belly or tempura maki

A healthy diet contains varieties (vitamins / minerals / carbohydrates, etc.), therefore, consume sushi with stir fired vegetables or miso soup (with tofu and seaweed) is a good balance of your meal.

The rice is not healthy, and fried sushis (tempuras) aren't, but everything else in sushi (fish and vegetables) is.

mmmm sushi. healthy it is...especially miso soup = )

if you stay away from the fried tempura or fried rolls...fat and calories are not an issue.

"Soochie around here we call that bait". Absolutely not. It amazes me the number of people who shy away from fully cooked chicken and beef because of fear of bacteria contamination and eat raw fish, and raw vegetables.

Raw vegetables are a much larger bio-hazard than any cooked meat. There are numerous cases of food poisoning from raw vegetables including out breaks of typhus, and hepatitis, traced back to tossed salads and salad bars.

Cook your food, please.
