Windows 98 was the best out of all of those....xp is probably the best right now..i'm sure they'll be coming out with another version soon.

98SE for personal use(with a few tweaks)

2000 for business use(with a few less tweaks)

98 nonfunctioning, ME nonfunctioning

I have had all the above AND still use 98SE(lots of software)
and ALL problems/ issues well addressed and way less hardware requirements!

2000 has few applications devoted to that platform.

A good argument can be made that 98SE still superior to XP(any variant).

Either 98SE or 2000

I had win98 - very basic

I had 98SE for years and was brilliant - most programs are still compatible with 98SE - same with ME

I've had no eperience with ME

2000 Is just as good as XP

Indeed, Windows ME is the worst of all.

Use Windows 2000. People will say "Get XP!", but nevermind them. XP is like 2000, but it required twice more RAM and twice mode disk space.

XP Pro

or

MAC OS

or

Linux

It all depends on what you want to use it for and your personal
taste.

Have fun but be safe.

well ME is a next generation of Win2000.
And yes it had(still does) a lot of security issues.
so i would say use Win2000 or if you computer is able to run use the new WinXP.
