Sorry forgot to spell check. He has been raising the children pretty much on his own. The mom is bipolar and is in and out of the picture. They are very lazy and do pretty much what they want till dad comes home from work. I work P/T.

Step parenting is the toughest job in the world. It will get awfully miserable for you if the teens aren't made to toe the line. You're right, everyone will have to work together and the most important thing is that the two adults agree on a strategy, plan, and then stick to it. If you don't do that, it's Katie bar the door.

It's very difficult for a parent, whether mother or father, to deal with their children (who probably dont live with them full-time) and the "new wife/girlfriend or new husband/boyfriend." The kids resent it and they are not shy about showing it. Parents must balance alienating their children and losing their new relationship; it's really a difficult situation. Although your question is very vague, I'm assuming that the kids are his, they don't live with you guys all the time, and you don't have any children. If this is the case, you need to sit down with him and gently tell him that you love him, but you need him to firmly discuss with his teens their behaviour. And, most importantly, let the kids have time ALONE with their dad. You might be surprised at the change in behaviour if they are allowed to have just "dad" time, not always time with the both of you.

Good luck with your situation.

are they your kids or his????? i know alot of guys who work during the day, the last thing that they want to do is come home and discipline. only because they want to have fun with them when they come home but then again thats with young children. sounds like he doesnt want to be the bad guy and be the cool one. i think he is putting to much of this on you, you should disipline him as well and make him stand up.
