What would you do if you worked in the recruiting dept of a rather large company and knew for a fact they discriminate against homosexuals, what would you do? I am in this situation.

I am straight, but I don't think it's fair.

They stereotype the interviews for managers that come in. If they act "gay" then no hire. They actually make fun of them in front of me and a few other employees. Kind of crazy to me.

A) A company can hire/fire anybody they choose for any reason they choose, except for anything strictly prohibited by law: race, creed, religion, nationality, gender, age.

B) You will notice that "homosexuality" is not on that list. Therefore, anyone claiming to sue the pants off of them would be telling you to do something that you wouldn't even get to court for.

C) This does not mean that the court of public perception wouldn't support you. The GLBT groups are still boycotting Cracker Barrel.....however you can see how effective that has been.

D) There really isn't a lot you can do apart from finding another job. You could "out" the company and get in touch with 48 hours, 20/20, some GLBT groups/mags, and make sure that you bring documentation with you when you quit, because YOU will be sued most likely.

Highly unlikely that what you are saying is part of corporate policy. It is much more probable that this is done at some local level, while it may seem like corporate to you because it may come from a District Manager (or some such thing) that controls a very large area, it is almost impossible for this to be corporate policy.

That said, if you can find a corporate policy that does state or promote such behavior you should report them. If you can't and in fact it is happening at the local level you should report it to the board of directors who should initiate a top down investigation. The other way around seldom works. If, after enough time (give them about a year) has gone by and the problem has not been solved then do report them to a governmental agency. If you don't follow the proper procedure and in fact it is corporate policy at most they get a slap on the wrist, if you do follow proper procedure there will be severe penalties at the highest levels.

Anonymously report them to human rights, the labor board and GLBT and anyone else who will listen. Hopefully SOMEONE will threaten them and they'll be forced to change their ways by firing those who discriminate or risk a nice lawsuit. You're a recruiting person there - HIRE SOME HOMOSEXUALS!! A large company facing being exposed as discriminting can be very bad for them if it goes public or into some powerful hands... GO FOR IT!! This situation is scary for gays and it's good to see honest caring FAIR people like you who want to help.

Since this is a large company, is this the policy of the corporation or maybe just your boss? The federal law doesn't list sexual orientation as a basis for unlawfull discrimination. I work for a worldwide corporation and my company has adopted a practice to take the federal discrimination laws a little furthur to include things like sexual orientation. You should check with your companies policy on discrimination. If sexual orientation descrimination is not specifically listed as an unlawfull practice, then your boss can probably get away with it. You should also check your states laws on employment descrimination.

Contact the EEOC in your state and file a report... Send proof and then, immediately afterward. Find another job before you get fired!

If it really means that much to you, that is. I think the Gay community is doing just fine and don't really need to work for such a company anyway...

fairly, i've got not got faith any employer can refuse to hire a gay on those grounds. i for my section have not got faith this might desire to be the case. If I own my own corporation I might desire to have the staggering say in who works for me. If I artwork for some one and do the comparable I might desire to be fired. i think of the comparable applies for a Christian employer or Church. remember that entire pesky separation of Church and state? which potential we've the main appropriate to persist with our ideals and the government can not intervene, as long as we don't bypass on a killing spree or harm others. to boot, why could a gay prefer to artwork for people who don't approve of them.

The name of this company should be widely publized and a boycott campaign organized. Rational corporate executives understand today that they need customers from all segments of society. Lacking that, they will go out of business.

Besides, bigots are all cowards.

You might not think it's fair, but there isn't a bloody thing you can do about it. Business establishments and companies still have the right to disassociate thierselves from certain types of behavior.

Simple solution. Tell the homosexuals to turn off their "gay-dar"
before they come in for the interview.
