My son did this, yes I thought it was strange too.Your right on the money about the teethers, your baby is teething for sure.My children got their first tooth at 1 and 2 months old.Which meant they were teething at birth. Remember it is painful for babies to get teeth, meds are often necessary, ask your doctor!!.As for the love bites(hickeys), write it down in his or hers baby book, so you can look back on this moment forever and laugh.

Your son simply prefers the feel of warm skin in his mouth. My 5 month old is the same way. He won't take a pacifier. He prefers to suck and chew on his first two fingers. Don't worry about it. It's perfectly normal.

My niece sucked on the back of her hand. Sucking is one of only two natural instincts that babies are born with. It comforts them. Some suck on pacifiers some on thumbs. I've seen babies that suck on their lips or hands. He is normal. Don't try to make him stop he will out grow it eventually. Probably as an infant, but if not it is not causing him any harm. If it makes him feel better let him do it.

Lots of babies suck on their arms when in the womb depending on the position they are in. Your son is probably continuing with this habit as a source of comfort and just like thumb sucking will probably grow out of it.

Don't worry about it. He will outgrow it. It's just the nursing instinct. My daughter was actually born with the "hickey" on the inside of her arm from sucking on it in the womb. Don't force the pacifier on him if he prefers his arm.

My baby did the same thing. His arm or wrist turn red and purple. My doctor said it's OK, he won't do it if it would hurt. He also liked to suck on my arm , or neck when I was holding him, me and my husband were so happy when he gave us a "hickey" .
He quit doing it after about a month or two, I think because he started to bite on toys, or anything he could hold. :)
Don't worry, it's normal and he will quit doing it. Mine is 15 months old now and he is biting, pinching me.

I haven't heard of this one before, but I do know that thumb sucking is kind of the same thing. It could cause problems in the long run. I recommend that you put something on his arm that he does not like (ex. hot sauce, vinegar, etc) and that should help him stop. Good luck

My son used to do this too. He only did it for a short time. Now he is 2 and he was never a thumb sucker or pacifier user.

Oddly enough when you mentioned this I remembered this girl in my preschool class(I was 4 then) ages ago did this...her parents took her to a specialist and they did something to fix this. He's just used to his arm it seems he may have sucked his arm in the womb and is used to it now. Ask you pediatrician.
