I have experimented extensively, and I can assure you that they swim even less well when they have only 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or no legs.

actually, they're right: some spiders do swim. they sort of collect a layer of air around their abdomens, which is where their airholes are for breathing. the hair on the abdomen helps keep the oxygen "attached" or "stuck." the spiders build a web under water where they take this oxygen and create a diving bell. this is the spider's home underwater where it can refill it's oxygen around it's abdomen without having to go to the surface every time.

because they use them to walk all over you in the middle of the night when your asleep,and statistics say you have an average of at least 3/4 a night, its comforting isn't it

The horrible feckers can swim...........and when you try to drown them they form an air bubble round themselves.........i've got the heebies just thinking about it !!

They can, but only butterfly stroke for which you need arms. Hence it appears as though they can't swim.
