"An exhaustive search of the literature finds no credible reports of deaths induced by marijuana. The US Drug Abuse Warning Network records instances of drug mentions in medical examiners' reports, and though marijuana is mentioned, it is usually in combination with alcohol or other drugs. Marijuana alone has not been shown to cause an overdose death” - Quote via the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Administration
“Tobacco use is considered to be the most important preventable cause of death and disease in the United States; More than 1 billion people smoke worldwide, and an estimated 3 million die each year from tobacco-related illness. Despite all of its documented consequences, tobacco use continues to play an important role in the morbidity and mortality of this country (U.S.)”- Quote via U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services

I had this debate with a Cardiologist who informed me that Marijuana has about 3x the tare as cigarettes. Of course they aren't filtered either. Having said that; I would answer your question and support your answer with another previously illegal substance that is still the number 1 most abused; alcohol. In the 1920's, certain Americans decided that drinking of alcohol was immoral and should be illegal. They convinced the politicians at that time to pass Prohibition. The result was the rise of bootlegging and the accumulation of immense fortunes and power by organized crime. Over the years, it became obvious that the law had created an even worse evil, and had failed to stop drinking. The only thing it succeeded at was increasing crime, so it was repealed, by the same group of people. The same thing occurred when marijuana was declared illegal. The only thing the laws have done is increase the influence and involvement of organized crime, and create criminals. It's still sold, still smoked. and the only crimes resulting in arrests have been arrests of the growers, sellers and users. There are no felonies on record that can be attributed soley to smoking marijuana. The government has made some really funny movies to discourage smoking Marijuana. If you get a chance, watch Demon Weed. It's even funnier if you are smoking MJ.... so I'm told!

Marijuana is legal in some of our states, not in others. Its like how can anyone draw a line in the dirt and say one one side its ok to smoke, etc. on the otherside, not. The line of course is the State separation line. Kind of like prostitution legal in Nevada but not in California?

If people want to smoke cigarettes and kill themselves fine I don't care but what bothers me is if someone smokes some weeds and drives a car and kills someone else. I think it is silly that people think weed is more harmless than tobacco I can operate my car just fine after I have had a cigarette but not if I smoked some weed. It is bad enough that we have alcohol legalized all we need is another dangerous substance available to who ever wants it.

In my opinion, it’s absolutely ridiculous that marijuana is illegal. I wonder if there are other industries that would suffer if it became legal?? Maybe the tobacco industry? The cotton industry, due to hemp production? I really doubt it’s illegal because the government is concerned with our health…..have you seen what the schools serve children for lunch?!?

You are right of course. And alcohol is legal, when it also kills, not just with drunk driving, but with a total yellowing of the body due to liver disease. Pot keeps those who are already dying well enough to eat often, or at least eases their pain.

1.Marijuana is the Best selling crop in the U.S.and has been for years.
2.If the U.S.made it legal and taxed it like they tax tobacco the deficit would disappear.

I think it's silly that we don't allow and regulate most forms of drugs. Think of all the excise tax-revenue we could get from this stuff! Heck, anyone stupid enough to do it is stupid enough to pay for it, much like cigarettes and alcohol!

It is. Marijuana should be legalized as well as other recreational drugs. For that matter, prostitution should be too. The government is losing out big time on potential tax earnings.
