Everything in Egypt is fresh! So fresh that it was probably killed that morning. Meat's are not required to be bled for weeks like they are in the us. It's fresh of the farm or river in the case of fish. Just walk through the marketplaces and you'll find all sorts of foods. For fruits you can find banana's(mowz in arabic), oranges(bortooan in egyptian arabic), mangos, mulberries (toot in arabic), watermelon(batikh), strawberries(farawla), pomegranet(rooman), almost everything although they may not all be available at the same season! Vegetable... you'll find cucmber, carrots(gizzar), tomatos(tomatum), zuchini, okra(bamia), lettuce, eggplant, again pretty much everything! I'm not sure how much variety they have of noodles either italian pasta's or chinese style but I know they have at least elbow macaroni (a popular ingredient in koshari-a deliscious dish you should try) and spagetti noodles. I also know that I saw chinese restaurants so there must be some chinese noodles somewhere. If you can't find them on your own you could ask the people at the restaurant where they buy their noodles from. Of couse if they make them from scratch I guess that really wouldn't help much unless they give you a recipie. I missed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, american cheese, and diet coke when I was there. I couldn't find any of those although I'm convinced that if I look harder next time I'll find them somewhere. Funny what little things you miss that you would never think of until all of the sudden you don't have any access to them. Also, I was mostly in mansoura and had given up looking once I was in cairo but I'm sure there's more choices for international food in cairo than mansoura.

Cairo could be the capital of Egypt and one of many largest cities in Africa and the Middle East and a great place to see; discover more with hotelbye . On the Nile water, Cairo is famous for its own record, maintained in the fantastic ancient Islamic city and Coptic internet sites in Old Cairo. The Egyptian Museum in the hub of town is a must see, with its numerous Ancient Egyptian artefacts because number trip to Cairo could be total without a trip to the Giza Pyramids, and to the regional Saqqara Pyramid Complex. In Cairo you can see: The Pyramid of Cheops (also called the Great Pyramid or Pyramid of Khufu), the greatest chart of the Giza group, and its inside of thin articles can be investigated, although there is not much to see, except an ordinary tomb chamber with an empty sarcophagus. Right behind the Great Pyramid is the Solar Vessel Museum, which exhibits one of the ceremonial solar barques discovered in the region that's been painstakingly restored to its original glory. More south on the plateau may be the Pyramid of Chephren (also called the Pyramid of Khefre), which includes an internal tube place that can be entered.

I live in the Ma'adi district of Cairo, and yes, you can pretty much find it all here. Not far from here is a Carrefour, and it's like an American Super Wal-Mart, with everything from large screen TVs to ostrich filets. Carrefour is reasonable, but on the expensive side for Cairo. If I go down to Road 7, and go to the daily open souqs there, I can buy a kilo of tomatoes for 1 Egyptian guinea (about 17 U.S. cents). There's a fish market near the Ma'adi Grand Mall, El Horia, that not only sells fish fresh from the Med, not the Nile, but you can go in, point out what you'd like to buy, and they'll grill or cook it any way you like right there. There are several places like that around Cairo - I've read about another Fish Market like this in the Shubra district, and another in Garden City.

You will pay a bit more for imports, but you can maintain a balanced budget here if you're smart about your shopping.

If you look on a map of Africa, you will see that The estuary of the Nile feeds into the Mediterranean. The Egyptians have been farming that rich land for thousands of years. Their vegetables are amazing and so scrumptious, and the silt from the river is full of nutrients. I have never seen anything to compare with their taste and the magnificence of the produce. You are in for a treat.
