Revenge is a dish best left alone. Sorry to hear about your hand. If there was any part you played in the incident or anything you could have done differently in the events leading up to it then learn from those things. Otherwise do not let the incident poison your mind and feelings for a second longer than necessary. Whoever did this is a dark and negative person. Any contact with or thoughts about such people will only lead to negativity in your life.
Karma is to do with the consequences of your own behaviour, look after your own behaviour and create good karma for yourself. Hope you are better soon and getting on with your life and art, which incidentally may benefit from this experience in the long run.

Not at all. I believe that an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind, as the saying goes. If people do something nasty to me by deliberate action without prior incentive (highly unusual but not unknown) then the y should be pitied and treated with compassion and not hurt back as all that will end up doing is making them meaner and giving them an unwelcome sense of justification for their original meanness.
Ghandi had the only right and moral right approach to this sort of thing - passive resistance as a last resort, where discussion and argument fails.

Sometimes "eye for an eye" is the wrong mentality. I'm a huge beleiver in karma and that what goes around comes around. If something happens to you that is pretty insignifcant, and by you doing something back creates something a lot bigger and worse, than its not worth doing it. That person will eventually get their own.
For instance, some drunk hit on my girlfriend in front of me once...I almost wound up and hit the guy; but if I did that then the cops would probably be called. More crap than what was worth.
Make sure that your actions don't create bigger and worse reactions.

"How far would you be prepared to go to get your own back?"
That is a way too open ended question to answer reasonably.
An eye for an eye as I understand means revenge. And no, in most cases I don't believe in it. I state that with the understanding that there are often exceptions to just about any moral question.

I am a pacifist (aka coward) and pretty non-confrontational, so I would probably go for "turn the other cheek".
Sometimes I wish I were more assertive, but as I don't admire aggressive people (aka attorneys), I would be afraid I would cross the line, once I got going.
Sure wish I could also compartmentalize a little more.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. It is a waste of one's energy to try to get back at someone, no matter what they did. One can only trust that if another person puts negative energy into the universe by doing bad to others, someday, somehow the universe will take revenge.

Depends on what the other person did. The older I get, the more I learn to either deal with things as soon as they happen, or just let them go. I'm more into drama-avoidance. Plus, karma is a waaayyy bigger b*tch than I am.

I always get fustrated on the TV/movies when somebody goes out for revenge, they find the guilty party and BLAMMO they shoot/kill them straight away.
If I was in a situation where revenge was required (friend/loved one/family/child/cat had been harmed) I wouldn't kill them - just torture them.
Shoot them in the legs and knee cap them whilest constantly asking "why did you do it ?"
I know guns were never mentioned here but its an example...
Eye 4 an eye in certain situations but others leave it to Karma - it's gonna hit them in the face for ya !!!

Sometimes I do yes. Other times I feel like I should be the better human being and just forget about it. I'm still alive and Karma is a biatch!

No I don't believe in an eye for an eye. I believe in karma. They will get what they deserve & so will I. Let it go.
