pakistan is a good team with quality bowlers and batsmen, but the problem is that out of a sudden they perfrom very badly. statistics show that when pakistani openers dominate they often win. So I think pakistan should be very conservative on their opening pair. I don't mind, if the openers take a bit of time on the pitch to dominate becos the pakistani team has hard hitters who can make it up at the end. So especially for Pakistan the openers must play a major role.
The irony is that Pakistan has never beaten India in World Cup finals, so one has to think about choosing the favorites.
The favorites for the world cup are Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

Not only Pakistan, but also India, Sri Lanka, Australia, South
Africa and New Zeland are capable of winning the world Cup.
It all depends on which team performs to its potential on the
particular day. The team performing to its potentials consistently will emerge the winners. As of now Australia stand out as the favourite team to win the World Cup

honestly i would like pakistan to win it, and India too, but i think the answer is no.
As a New Zealander, i would also like us to win it, but the answer is no.
India and Pakistan are not rounded enough as teams to win the world cup, they both lack key bowling. I also question pakistans opening batting. Hey, love their middle to lower order, than can score runs, but i think Australia can score runs too. And Australia can score a lot more runs of pakistans bowling than the other way around.
Australia an/or England if they can get their stuff together, and by their stuff i mean start scoring runs, and get Simon Jones back to get wickets.
I really don't think anyone else has a realistic shot, mabye.. no, i was going to suggest Sri Lanka if they keep growing under tom moody, but i don't think so.

Pakistan winning the world cup..... It is difficult to predict such a outcome. No doubt Pakistan team is a bunch of talented cricketers, but they consistently perform below their capacity. Pakistan team is consistant in one area, that is inconsistent performance. Some day they look as world beaters, while most of the time they look as a county/regional side, not an international side.
There are many weak links in Pakistan side, the main is opening batsmen. Pakistan is struggling to find a dependable and stable opening pair of batsmen. It is very hard to post a decent total if the top order fails, and when the fielding restrictions are now increased to 20 overs, the team that fails to cash-in in this period usually struggles in the entire match.
The next weak link is the fielding, Pakistan fielding is not among the best, you have to just look at Danish Kaneria on the boudary line, he looks so clumsy and with big Inzy and old legs like Yusuf in the side Pakistan team usually ends up giving 10 to 15 runs extra just because of the lapses in fielding.
Pakistani bowling- hmm the less said is better, With Shohaib not in his prime fitness, no other bowler looks that impressive.
Too many unpredictable all rounders in the side, Sahhid afridi, abdul rajjaq, etc.
Favourites to win the World Cup:-
Sri lanka, India and Australia has very good chances in this World Cup. No other team looks that well prepared or balanced.
Let the best team win. Personally I would love to see Australia or India win.........but i think it is Sri Lanka who has better chances with lot more depth in battting and bowling and fielding, good mix of experience(Jaysurya-explosive top order batsman, Muralitharan - one of the best spinners in this world, Chaminda Vaas - Accurate and relentless attack, Attapatu - Solid Defensive Batting) and youthfull energy.(Mahela - Good all round batting skills and Sangakkara - one of the best wicket keeper batsman)
The only weak link is fast bowling(needed in the helpfull conditions for fast bowlers in the carribean) other than Chaminda vaas.. no other bowler is threat enough for the opposing batsman.

Of course Pakistan. Pakistan has the best bowlers and best middle order. All they need is to work on their openers and find a reliable pair. I am sure before world cup Mohammad Hafeez and Imran Farhat would become a permenant opening pair of Pakistan.
