...the likes of Bill Buckley & Barry Goldwater, not the people who get their education by watching/listening/reading O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh & similar entertainers?

Why have you let these people hijack your movement?

hope Shiraz replies.

a professor - I would not include neo-cons with conservative libertatians, but that's just me.

I am amazed that today's "conservatives" are more concerned with their mean spirited vitriol than good conservative fiscal policies. I am not to thrilled about the marriage of fundamentlists and conservatives either. I think that was a major mistake. I am pro-religion & have no problem with voluntary prayer in school etc but the conservative movement has been co-opted by the religious right.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Republicans. I think you and I would agree that these knuckle heads who make up the New Republican Party at the present are of an entirely different breed. They love War and they hate a balanced budget.
Also, their idea of integrity is dropping two bombs in the same hole.
Prof. Rove, the best know two bit politician in the Country since Lee Atwater is a type of scum bag that corrupts American politics and leaves a ring around the tub.
The current Republican Party should hang it's head in shame. And then lets hope the true Republicans can reemerge from wherever they have gone.

O'Reilly doesn't belong with Hannity and Rush. In fact O'Reilly is more similar to Goldwater than most these days.
I don't care what anybody says, Bush runs his office a lot like a Democrat if you ask me. Spends too much, dances around too much seemingly affected by the liberal media.
I don't like the Republican religious right, though I think they are more used for their votes frankly. I am becoming more of a Libertarian, but voting for them is like whistling in the wind, wasted votes.
Things go in in cycles. Remember though when the Repus were run and more associated with country club conservatives, they couldn't win elections. There needs to be a happy medium here.

I would say that Barry Goldwater would be happy with the way things have gone, because a good half of conservatives these days are essentially libertarians (a subset which are the neocons), and have no truck with cultural/Christian conservatives (although agree on the economy, but not on personal issues).

Great, Great Question.. Why have they allowed the popular party to be hijacked? I'll tell you why, it is easier to hate, distrust, flag wave and get hysterical. Whilst you're doing all this, your eyes are diverted from the fact that I am filling my pockets with your money.

I wish I was ruthless enough to adopt that policy, because it sure works. Just look at what Bush has done to this once great nation.

YES. I am a proud conservative! I base MY way of life on my own ideas from the Bible not opinionated talk show hosts. I do watch the shows though to help me stay informed. I watch Fox News because they are the most accurate.

NOT UNTIL THE REPUBLICAN PARTY SEPERATES ITSELF FROM CHRISTIAN PARASITES AND BECOME THE PARTY OF GOLWATER AGAIN.

If America is so "conservative" thenm WHY so much
-divorce
-promiscuity
-drug abuse
-credit card debt
-online pornography
-dead bills drafted by Republicans
-ignored political corruption.

And the list goes on and on.Today's conservtaves are NOT Ayn Rand and Ronald reagan. Now its more like Rick Santorum,Jerry Fallwell, and the unpatriotic malevolence of Karl Rove.

That's what's left.Liberals,Moderates,and right-wing fringe groups.

It is much easier to engage in diatribes and screeds than to offer a palpable solution to problems from a conservative standpoint

Democrats are more conservative than Republicans. The Rapture Right has shifted so far right that where they used to sit seems radical to them (but oddly enough, seems logical to me). Too many nutjob Christians have taken it over.
