Politics is a Greek Word which means administring "polis" or "city state". The word politics is closly associated with state, government, and most importantly, Power. Since "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutly", so when it comes to politics one has to drop the notion of good and moral. The father of politics Machiavelli says that you can choose to be immoral any time for your interest. So the principle "end justifies means" makes politics what you call "dirty".

Everyone pushes for its own agenda. If you have to shove aside a enemy or competitor most politicians will not hesitate to use whatever means possible.
But this is not just politics. Human beings in their social interactions, sometimes do the same depending of what's at stake.

Because we are not really united.Republicans generally protect democrats like idiot kid brothers that talk and whine too much,and eventually turn gay..Nonetheless they are our brothers so we forgive their countless stabs in the back (Politically Speaking)
