Oh honey, that is so hard. I know how scarey it is. I had a son that was 28 weeks and weighed 2lbs. 13 ozs. and was in the NICU for the 1st 2 and 1/2 months of his life. After 3 years of speech, occupational and physical therapy, we still didn't know if he would be "normal". By God's grace he is 12 years, makes the A and B honor role and plays baseball. I'll tell yea, it was the most dramatic, awful, frightening and bewildering time for me as a mother when he was first born. I would have rather laid on the table in the NICU myself with all the tubes, needles and air vents, than to ever see my weak little baby go through that. Thank God yours are okay and healthy today and the worst is over. Smile because the worst is TRULY over.
Take Care of you and yours.

I have a friend that has the same problem. She had a set of twins die at 23 weeks gestation because they were too small to survive. The minute she found out she was pregnant the OBGYN put a couple of stitches in her cervix to keep the cervix from colapsing. They should have done that with your second baby.
There are a lot of people with premature babies out there and in some areas there are even support groups to help family members deal with the losses and the hopitalization of babies so small.
I am glad that both of your babies are a live and well and I hope you the best of luck in raising them.
Congrats on your new arrival.

WOW!!! I have 4 children and 3 of them were considered premature. My first was born at 36 weeks and weighed 4lbs 11oz. My second was born at 33 weeks and weighed 4lbs and 13oz. My third was born at 37 weeks but I did go into labor early and it was an obstacle stopping it because my body just will not carry my babies long. With my 4th child that I gave birth to 4 weeks ago he was born at 36 weeks too he weighed 5lbs and 8oz. I'm just not one to carry to term but I always take very good care of myself so that my children will be perfectly healthy(they all came home the next day or with me) It's obviously that you took very good care of yourself as well because it is truly a blessing to have babies that young and them do so well....I applaud you for that. I just want you to know that you are not alone and that if you plan on giving birth in the future there are procedures that can help your cervix stay closed during pregnancy...just ask your ob/gyn.

Well I havent had any kids... but I know some one who has had premature kids. My best friends mother has had 3 premature kids and they are ALL now alive and well. She has 4 kids but 3 were premature... Her oldest son was fine and he is now 19, but My best friend Desiree was preemie (dont know how much she weighed) but she is now 16 goin on 17.... and her son Ryan was premature by like 2-3 months and he is now 2 and very active and great (and he's a little chunky...LOL) and her last child Christopher was born 5 months early and he weighed a little less than 1lb. and at one point the doctors told her to come in cuz he was about to die.... but thru MUCH prayer he is now healthy and alive and weighs like 13-17lbs... So Im pretty sure that she was would tell you that it was extremely scary for her goin thru it 3x and one almost died... But she/we all got thru it together with MUCH prayer!!!

If I were you, I wouldn't even try to have another one, the same thing may happen again. In 2000 I gave birth to my son at 34 weeks and that was soon enough. He was 6lbs 15 oz,pretty big for 34 weeks. My daughter was 10lbs 6oz,on time. so my son was tiny to me.Both pregnancies were very hard, I HAD A tipped uterus!Answer to your question is: NO, you are not the only one, visit any baby hospital and you will see a bunch of early babies, but they are living due to the medical technology today!!

I have the same problem my son was born at 33 weeks along and weighted 4lbs. 10 oz. when he was born I got very lucky. Why did they not do a cerclage for you? If you ever get pregnant again tell them you want one it will help keep the baby in longer. I'm pregnant right now with my second baby and I'm 26 weeks along right now.

My 2 pregnancies were complete opposites. lol. My eldest was 21 days over (not fun) and my youngest was 4 weeks early and only 5 pounds. The doctors told me to not get pregnant after the first one or I might miscarriage and I only became pregnant while on the pill so that meant we knew she'd be early so it was a lot of bed rest for me which is the only reason why I was able to maintain the pregnancy for as long as I did.

I had twin boys that were born at 28 weeks. jamin weighed 2Ib 4oz and Jeriah weighed 2Ib 1oz. I gave birth early due too preeclampsia. Im so glad everything turned out for you and your kids are doing great. My sons didnt make it but it because they were realy sick sence i found out that I was preg. I had many problems.Jeriah was in the hospital for 7 months I breast fed him until he died , I had to pumped so he could be fed through a feeding tube. that was so hard.he had a trac and was on 100% oxygen before he died. I know what you must be going through, You seem like a wonderful mom..keep up the good work.

I had a 4lb. 7oz. preemie girl born at 34 weeks gestation due to severe preeclampsia. Yes, it's very scary. I am scared to death to have another chld, not to mention that I have degenerative bone disease so keeping up with my now 13 mo. old is difficult, that my husband is considering a vasectomy!
