A switch from tree. Stings and leaves marks. Now that sends a good message.

A hairbrush is classic, and does seem to get very good results. But variety adds spice to the game, and during the course of a spanking I love to vary the implements - tawse, paddle (both leather and wood), strap, martinet, belt, slipper, wooden spoon and so on. Each makes a different sound, and elicits different reactions from the spanked girl - yelps, purrs, wriggles, etc.
But I always like to start off with hand-spanking, as nothing warms up a young lady's bottom so effectively and makes it blush so beautifully. Also a good long warm-up by hand reduces the risk of bruising.

If you're talking adult consentual "discipline", then a cat-o-nine tails is effective, but difficult to administer on the fly. And although the sudden removal of a belt and it's use as a disciplinary tool is exhilirating, it must be oriented just so in order for there to be maximum effect. There are those who are very good at this.
If you'e talking about a child, one single shot with the hand to the buttocks is the way to go (after a warning of course). Anything beyond that is ineffective and abusive. They'll feel much more guilty for disappointing you if you only do it once. But what REALLY sends a message is guilt ("I'm so disappointed in you") or embarassment via overlove ("do it or I'll stand up in the bleachers and shout to all your friends how much I love you and I'll hug you in public") - There's NO COMEBACK for those last two and neither will l land you in trouble with Social Services!

Ever thought of time out for the child in a corner. Believe it or not it does work. Don't let them turn around and set a timer and ask them before they get out if they know why they were sent there. For spanking ever tried a switch from a tree.

If your talking about children...only ever use you hand...and never spank them out of anger, send them to their room or put them in time out for ten minute while you cool off...also only spank a clothed child.

Our hands have evolved for millions of years specifically for spanking. Our ability to hold things and so on is just a nice byproduct. So, use your hand, that is what its for.
