I asked a question about how to safely store fur pieces until winter...all I got was some remarks from PETA...Why is everyone hating on my fur? Last time I checked fur was a fashion accessory...and it always has been...right?

By the way how do u safely store fur? Is it really unsafe to keep it in plastic?

Why not buy faux-fur? You don't need to worry about "storing" it as much and it lasts longer, AND now some great designers are only using faux-fur. Some of them are Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, and Calvin Klein. Real fur may be a fashion accessory, but faux-fur is too, and it helps save animals! Sorry about the PETA yelling earlier.

Here's a link that explains how to care for leather and fur.

Personally, I doubt I'd ever own a real fur. I have no problem with faux. But I'm appalled by the ones who throw paint on fur coats in protest. When that happens, you have no choice but to get rid of the coat. It just becomes more waste. At least the ones who have fur coats are wearing them. They're USABLE in that form.

You know, I don't much care for the idea of hunting for food, or animals raised for the whole purpose of becoming food, but it's a part of reality, isn't it? I'd much rather know that an animal was killed for a purpose than for just the sport of killing.

I store mine in my wardrobe, but take it out for an airing now and then, keeps it nice. If possible, put some cedar wood on some string to keep the moths away.

Ps, it wasn't originally a fashion accessory, but a means to keep us alive, humans dont do too well in cold conditions, and to be quite honest, the animal is dead, so why not make use of it.

Yes, it's bad to keep it in plastic. The lack of air circulation can encourage moisture creating mold and mildew build up.
The fur should be stored in a breathable fabric garment bag.

no, I think plastic would be okay, just dont squish the fur....like dont use those vaccuum sealed bags. just put it in plastic and hang it up or store it on TOP of the rest of the boxes in your closet, that should be okay. as for PETA...hate to tell you people this but EVERY vegetarian society has DIED OUT. Anyways, no one ever thinks about those poor defenseless vegetables. Cows may be cute but when you're eating that salad, those vegetables are STILL ALIVE....

You just have to be ready for any kind of answer. If it is out there to buy, then I wouldn't worry about it. There will always be people pushing their opinions down your throat until you gag. Oh well. That is where freedom of speech comes in. But, do your thing, girl. You like fur, and can afford it, sport it. I wouldn't worry too much. Just don't give out your address. Pamela Anderson may show up at your door........LOL!

I take mine to the dry cleaners and have them put them in cold storage......that's the safest way to keep a fur. And, yes, I will openly admit to owning not 1, not 2, but 3 furs and I wear them all the time! Let PETA find me and throw a can of paint on me......
