i gave my notice at work. was not able to give 2 week notice, but only 1 week. i think thats enough. now he is all mean to me. being unprofessional around me and making me look stupid in front of others and putting me down with words. why? cant he realize im moving on? how can i go through with this until next week? what should my attitude be like? im so upset now. he has a way of making me feel bad. but for what? i dont know. i want to leave now but i also want to be nice and give him time to find someone else.

ill try to hang in there. but i hate him. should i just not show up next week?
could he be able to keep my last paycheck if i dont show up?

Don't burn your bridge, but use this as a perfect opportunity to flex your self-esteem and set a precedent for yourself.

The next time your boss insults or belittles you in front of others, be calm and pause for a few seconds looking straight at him. Once everyone is quiet say to him very professionally, "Jim (or whatever his first name is) we need to talk privately. Will you come with me?" And then start walking to the nearest door. Don't hesitate or give him a chance to throw more jabs at you. His jaw should drop and the rest of the group will automatically respect you.

When he follows you and you're out of everyone's earshot, tell him "You have been treating me disrespectfully and that's unacceptable... especially coming from a manager. I have a right to leave with dignity and you have a duty to create a positive workplace. Fortunately I'll be leaving in a few days and won't have to deal with your insults anymore, but at least have respect for the rest of your staff and realize that when you act like this you're losing their confidence." And then walk away immediately. Don't wait for him to argue with you or make any other insults. The rest of your time at that company do your best to steer clear of him and be friendly whenever you're with him. Don't let him know he's rattled you. Remember to not burn the bridge.

However,

If he insults or belittles you again in front of anyone, this time you have a choice. You can let it go so your exit is smooth, or you can further build everyone's respect for you, including him. Just say something like: "Jim, I thought we had discussed how you were going to work on your problem. You know that disrespectfulness is unprofessional for a manager." This time stare at him cold in the face. Be prepared to respond confidently to whatever he says. Such as if he says "I'll see you in my office," you can just say: "Yes, that's the appropriate place for you to make any negative criticisms of your staff. Thanks."

You can change these sentences to work for you. The bottom line is that you need to verbally communicate that this is unacceptable behavior and you will not tolerate being treated unprofessionally by anyone.

You could always go the safest route and just stay friendly with him and act like he isn't doing those things, and leave on a good note just in case you need him in the future... but realize by staying quiet it comes at a cost to your self-esteem which is priceless. There are ways to be tactful, yet firm... and you'll gain everyone's respect. Maybe one of your co-workers is someone you'll come into contact with later. Don't you want them to remember you as the girl with guts who stands up for herself?

Think about this, too: Chances are the boss is treating you like this because he thinks you're weak and won't do anything about it. He probably also can see that you get emotional over things. People at work can be bullies, and they love to pick on people they can upset easily. You need to become less revealing of your feelings and more assertive... this kind of behavior towards you will start happening less. Stand up for yourself and your confidence and self-esteem WILL start building!! Good luck!

PS... Hang in there for next week. Even if you don't, he can't legally withhold your check for the days you worked on this pay period. I believe every state has a law for how long they can take to give you a final check. If he threatens, take the issue to his supervisor. If he's the owner then you can threaten him with a call to your state's employment office, which oversees all employment issues and they can breathe down his neck pretty good. I don't suggest that, though... because it would burn your bridge, but at least know you have that option available to you if he tries to withhold the check. Good luck!

Your boss is mad because he is losing a good worker, and he feels mad. He will have to find, train and hope the next person is as good as you were. That is a lot to do and think about in one week. I am sorry your boss is being immature about it, but get used to it. There are a lot more bad bosses than there are good ones.

Just stick it out.
Do not leave with any angry words. Be polite when you leave and tell him that it was a great learning experience working for him.

(even if it was learning how to "not treat employees") Keep that thought to yourself!

True story, Houstoin, TX.
A buyer was dismissed in a dept. store. He had no angry words, but his supervisor let him have it.

Five tears later, the supervisor was dismissed and went to Chicago where he had accepted a new job.

Guess who his supervisor was?

I had sorta the same problem.. my boss was a jerk all the time.. making me look like a idiot. always sayin people were stupid. I just sat there and let it go in one ear and out the other. I didn't care on what he was sayin. all i cared about was gettin my work done. I wasn't gettin paid to hear my boss *****. I was gettin paid to do my work.

If you want to leave now, leave now. He's being a jerk and you're probably not going to get a good reference from him anyway. Tell him you're not into spending a week being treated like dirt, and go home.

u probebly should have given him the two weeks notice. i think u should grin and bear it its only a week. u may need him later so dont do any thing u may regret.

i wouldnt lower myself to his level.... if you really want to get on his nerves be extra nice and extra friendly.... and if you really really want to get on his nerves talk about how much your going to love your new job and how much better its going to be... but with a smile

try to ignore him and do your work - anyways it just one week - but you'll be out of there soon and you'll be good!!!
