I want to move my current account from Abbey as their call centre is now based in Bangalore and I have had numerous bad experiences with them.

This is my primary driver for moving, as their online service offering is actually very good.

Any advise appreciated...

I'd be interested to find out. I work in a UK bank call centre, but my bank also has a centre in Mumbai. Also, some banks may not have their call centres in India, but may have outsourced some processing work there.

One thing I object to about Natwest though is the way they appear to suggest through their advertising that you can speak directly to the branch. Customers may have the branch number, but if the call isn't answered in a certain number of rings (it usually isn't) then the call still goes to a call centre.

The best way to find out from your bank is to ask them directly if any work is undertaken in outsourced centres. Just because you happen to get through to a UK centre, doesn't mean your bank doesn't have one.

I'd love to switch to a bank that doesn't outsource, but unfortunately it is a condition of my employment that I have my current account with my employer :-(

I telephone bank with the Bank of Scotland (now HBOS) and it is generally Irish people who answer my call (go figure). This account was a Bank of Scotland account first, before Halifax got involved so i'm not sure if there are separate call centres or not.

I'm pretty sure that the Royal Bank of Scotland also has U.K. call centres.

You must guess by now that i'm Scottish, but even if you're not, i've seen plenty of branches of both of these banks all over the U.K.

I used to bank with the Abbey and had exactly the same problems, god knows how they are doing a job where they are handling large sums of money when they can barely speak English! Once I asked for an overdraft and instead of granting the overdraft they lowered it! I now bank with the Natwest who have English call centres and I've had no problems whatsoever.

As the three above have stated, Natwest have UK call centres.

However, I have different accounts with different banks - it depends what I am using the account for and who offers me the best deal/service
