Lotion doesn't do any good and I cant wear bandaids on my thumbs all the time.

Do you trim your cuticles at all? If you don't keep it up they will peel and become hang nails. If you don't trim them, don't start, you'll only make it worse. Push them back and carefully trim the loose skin you have already so it doesn't catch on clothing ect. and make the sore worse. Go to Sally's Beauty supply and get some cuticle oil. Stick it in a baggy and carry it with you, apply as needed untill your cuticles are healed.

100% shea butter is good for cuticles, rough heels and elbows, and many dry skin conditions. There are alot of products with shea butter in them but the percentage is not high enough to have good results.

Push your cuticles back with your finger nails. (Just push them off the nail, and back to the skin.) If you do this on a regular basis, you'll find you don't have the hang nails you are getting.
