My computer is extremely slow and quite often it just freezes for no apparent reason, I think the problem is the viruses.

Have you done your windows updates? (under tools, windows update) at top of browser for internet explorer if you are using IE. I'd do those. I also go to symantec.com (norton). on the website, there is a "customer support, remove virus for me" option on the main page. If you click on it, it'll take you to a page where you can run a scan on your computer, and it'll tell you if you have a virus, and if you do, it gives you a number to call for customer service, where they can give you advice...
(I'd also do maintenance on computer, defrag, disc clean, etc..)

i dont think you can get rid of them on your own because they use files that looks just like regular files such as a dll file and sometimes they would put it in a folder such as system 32 and then they would cause your computer to hide that folder where you cant find it and even if you were to find the files you may not be allowed to delete it.

I use Norton anti virus to catch them but from what I heard after you have a virus there is no getting rid of it totally.

the best way to do is clean up your pc with virus cleaner beofre installing any antivirus
try downloading sysclean from trendmicro get it from below link

dowload all these and then extract the tsc and pattern files to a same folder where you download sysclean and run it will clean all you viruses once done install some good anitivirus software from ca.com

Try Kaspersky. I've uesd it for 2 years and it will keep you virus free as long as you keep it up to date. Try running their free online scan (which WILL clean your system too) to see how it is.

try using spybot 1.4 and Adaware SE they can be found at www.download.com and will detect and delete spyware, adware, trojan's etc.
www.grisoft.com has excellent free virus software also
