I had the same prob with my son. Our ped. recomended mixing 1oz water w/1 tsp. DARK Karo syrup and feeding it to him 1-2 time per day until he was old enough for solid food/juice. My son also had problems "getting going", so the doc said to put a little petrolium jelly on a q-tip and gentley swirl just to get him started. Now we make sure he has some prunes or apple juice every day because he still gets constipation problems if we don't. (he's 9 months now). Also, if you can afford it try pre-mixed formula. It seemed to be better on my sons tummy. And I think he liked it a little better. We would give him powdered until the can was gone then premixed until that can was gone and so on. Going back and forth didn't seem to bother him and we always bought the same brand. Hope this helps!

my 4 week old just switched to the soy as well....the regular had him constipated and I did the prune juice thing too....try putting a couple teaspoons in his milk....if it doesn't get him regular then contact his pediatrician because he may need another type of formula....it's not fun watching your newborn strain so hard....try putting a little rash cream or some pure petroleum jelly down there so that he's not sore from all of the pushing.

the prune juice gave my daughter water water diarrhea. It literally shot out. What works great and keeps their stools soft is White Karo Syrup. Put about 1 tablespoon in 1 bottle each day and they will never get constipated. It sounds weird but it works! I always gave it to my daughter when she went about a day without pooping. Gave it to her in the morning, by in the evening she had pooped.

First of all at that age you can give juice but you should only give about 1oz of juice to a 4oz bottle. 1oz juice and 3oz water. Of if it gets bad you can by suposatorys (sp) O.T.C at wal-mart. It is made by FLEET and is for infents or children. They have a liquid or the solid ones you put up their little bum. If you find that the juice isn't worrking or you are having to "help" with the supositories(sp) moree then like once a week. Or that he can't seem to go with out your help you need to contack your doc. You can also do what they call "Water" his bottle. That is and extra ounce of water, for example you put 2 scoops of formula to a 4oz bottle. to water the bottle you give 2 scoops for a 5oz bottle. But before you do that I would call your doc.

Why do you keep changing formulas? Did his doctor recommend it? Soy is actually not good for babies. I use Nestle Good Start (not made by Nestle chocolate) with DHA and ARA and it works good - I used Similiac and Enfimil, but my daughter couldn't hold it down. Good Start is actually better then Similiac and Enfimil and a bit cheaper too!

If the formula has extra iron in it this will make them more constipated. Too much diarrhea will dehydrate them as well call the doctor, maybe switch every other bottle of iron with lower iron formula

try a little Kyrol sypup in his formula. Doctors are so quick to change formulas - wonder how many of them have babies and have had the duty of feeding them. Maybe he can go back to the original formula now?

Many of the formulas are too harsh for a babies stomach to handle. It is common for it to cause constipation and other stomach discomforts. All i can say is that you should have breastfed.
