I just recently bought a car with a turbo diesel engine (a smart car), but I don't know much about diesel. Is it safe to switch between regular diesel and, say, Sunoco's Gold Diesel, and any of the other diesel types out there?

There are major differences in diesels. The main difference you should know is the cetane number. Cetane is like the opposite of viscosity, the higher the number the runnier it is, the lower the number the thicker it is. If the weather is cold your diesel won't start unless your cetane is high enough(runny). Using low (thick)cetane in hot weather is great because you don't need pre-heating to get the mixture to ignite. If you buy comercially, you really don't have to worry because the distributors usually switch to the appropriate cetane for that season. Some retailers have different formulations accounting for sulfur content, sludge formation, paraffins, aromatics, water, bacteria, and antioxidants. Most drivers will buy the cheapest diesel the car will tolerate, that way you can save money. Like octane, diesel engines can use the lowest rating until you start having problems, then go up a number. Buying "premium" gas or diesel unnecessarily, is a waste of money. You'll always find someone out there who'll swear by their brand.

I think Diesel is diesel (aside from bio-diesel). I think it's just like switching grades of gasoline. Shouldn't matter.

i could trust the gallery on finding one and sticking with it....for a on a similar time as. as quickly as your newborn is ingesting table nutrition, then it rather does not count while you're mixing Enfamil with Similac as they are adjusting to differences already. My lady chum and that i won pot rather some samples as we signed everybody up we knew and took their samples for our toddlers. might even look to be certain in case you could replace out coupons as quickly as you compromise on on a variety. that's what my aunt and that i do. She is a Nestle stable start up and that i'm a Similac comfortable consumer, and it works out nicely. stable good fortune!
