It seems that anything that bases the custody of children using anything other than which parent is actually the best parent would be considered sexist.

I think women are considered to be more nurturing then men. Most (not all) men would rather be doing something else then playing with their kids or taking care of even their kids most basic needs. Courts here are still a little bit limited in their thinking. The biggest reasons that they won't grant a mom custody here is if she's a crack addict or something like that. They're more willing to give the kids to an unemployed but extremely nurturing mom, then to a dad who doesn't really seem to care but has a great job. Maybe it is a bit sexist. If most men would start being more "Nurture, not nature" when it comes to child-rearing than I think it would become more equal.

Usually it is a 50/50 split and in some cases it actually is fair.. For example a couple that has been together for 20 years, raised two children to adulthood, one working while the other stayed at home taking care of the children and household. Skipping building a career and pursuing schooling. Cases where it's not fair and can still happen as a 50/50 split would be like a 2 year marriage with no children where one has worked and supported the other that sat at home watching t.v. and playing on the internet being nothing more then a burden. Laws should actually be changed to take the particular circumstances into account, instead of forcing people to ask for pre nuptial contracts and that sort of thing.

Is is sexist. Yes.

Reason why. You have to go to court in front of a judge and they all think their Mommy was the best. You see they think moms stay home and take care of the kids and dads work. So they are sexist.

It will never change.

Did you ever notice that women complain that they don't get paid the same as men. Yet A bigger percent of women never pay child support when they don't get custody. Want to be equal in pay but not in paying. Sexist or what. .

Well, the woman carried the kid for 9 months but it does take two to create.
I don't think it's sexist, it seems to appear most women who have a divorce that get full custody, get the custody because they have a better salary or a stable home.
A good friend of mine doesn't have custody of her kids at all and is FIGHTING to get joint custody. She has to pay her ex hubsand child support just as well.

usually the mom gets the kids because she is the one who wants them. In the case where the dad fights 4 them and can prove he is the most stable best provider he gets them in general most dads don't put the effort in. My daughters 8.5 her dad left 3 years ago no cards no gifts no support no calls. I do know people with joint custody NEITHER pay support because the support cancels each others out UNLESS ONE PARENT makes a lot more money then sometimes the one who has the most is ask to pay to even out the incomes.

Here in New Hampshire the courts look at BOTH parents and many times fathers are getting custody rather than the mothers.

The courts are opening their eyes to the WHOLE picture. Not all mothers are great parents and not all fathers are great parents either.

I don't get it either. I also don't understand why when parents have joint custody the father still has to pay child support. They have the kids the same amount of time!!
