I wonder what actually IS the political philsophy of today? Is there any idealism left? The Power of Nightmares, a BBC documentary, has some interesting points on this. It surmises that since the liberal dream collapsed, politicians can no longer supply us with idealised dreams of the future. To an extent their role collapsed. So they found a new role - to provide us with nightmares of what might happen. It talks about the political philosophy of Leo Strauss, who influenced the Neo-Cons (the right), and compares this to the philosophy of the Islamists. Rather freakily, their philsophies are similar - the world is divided into good and evil. Both the Americans and the Islamists regard themselves as the good; and they must stamp out evil - each other.

Wizard, how boring that you think I am 1) An American (I am English) 2) Making any kind of criticism that cause you to think you should jump to the defense of America as a wonderful free country.

I am asking about political ideology in general. Not criticising America's free society. Why are so many Americans so sensitive to political debate? As soon as they even suspect a slight on the character of their country they seem to lose it and blow up. It makes subtle debate impossible.

Let me make clear - I am NOT criticising America. There are many good things and many bad things about America, as there are with all places in the world. I am talking about ideology and whether it has a place in national or international politics anymore.

On the one hand I would agree that the politic ans in power at the moment have abandoned ideologies in favor of a management type approach to politicians. The main aim of many seems to be to stay in power.

However I suspect that ideologies will return soon. At my 6th form there where several different political groups formed including a communist one.

If you believe that communism and ideology had anything in common then you must be mindless! Communism taught that there is good and evil also. It taught that they were good and others were evil also.

The Unites States has one of the few political systems that even allow such a question to be raised publicly. You are free to stand in front of the White House and ask this stupid question to everyone that passes by.

Do you believe that you could have stood in front of the Kremlin or can stand in front of the Royal palace in Saudi Arabia and ask a question that similarly criticizes the local government?

Get a life!

fairly the belief at the back of communism is physically powerful. yet whilst communism is placed into practice it does not artwork out. Karl Marx invented the belief of a variety of freedom, there became no money, human beings worked mutually, labour became shared everybody had the comparable form of domicile the comparable clothing etc. yet whilst placed into practice the controlling government decide to make issues extra suited for themselves extremely than helping out. for occasion the leaders could get themselves mansions, a good number of nutrition, money, the terrific. they could make the electorate artwork like slaves and that they could cope with them poorly and not safeguard them. meanwhile the electorate are extraordinarily plenty being brainwashed, they think of each and every thing is o.k., yet they are additionally too scared to do something. some electorate could stand against communism and that they could "disappear" human beings could be labelled traitors (even though in the event that they could be harmless) and there could be public executions. of direction, if u . s . a . of america does not like this then they are going to bypass to conflict to end it, if u . s . a . of america is going to conflict, Australia is going to conflict. so it rather is a robust thought yet undesirable in reality. and that i might desire to have exaggerated, certainly or negatively, i'm no professional.
