You have been told how to do it but not the why.

(1/2)/(3/4)

You have a big numerator (1/2) and a big denominator (3/4).

What happens when you multiply 3/4 by its reciprocal 4/3? You get the number 1, which means the big denominator becomes 1 and can be ignored.

However, you know that if you multiply the denominator of a fraction by something, you must multiply the numerator by the same thing so the numeric value of the fraction will not be changed.

So we must then do (1/2)(4/3) = 4/6 = 2/3

It is always best to understand the 'why' behind any rule.

When you divide fractions, then you have to multiply by the reciprocal of the second one.

So, 1/2 divided by 3/4 would be rewritten as:

1/2 times 4/3

Then, multiply like usual (numerators and the denominators)
The answer would be 4/6, which can be reduced to 2/3.

instead of doing the division, you take the reciprocal of 3/4, which is 4/3, and do a multiplication between 1/2 and 4/3

(1/2)*(4/3) = 4/6 = 2/3

The general rule for division by a fraction is to multiply the numerator by the inverse of tthe denominator ('invert nd multiply') so
(1/2)/(3/4) = (1/2)*(4/3) = 4/6 = 2/3

(1/2) / (3/4)

the reciprocal of (3/4) is (4/3)

so, multiply (1/2) and (4/3)

(1/2) * (4/3) = 4/6
