Check fuel, does it have any?. then ignition system, plugs, coil, leads, dizzy cap. if it wont start with a push it's prob the coil.

I had a Zetec Focus and the ECU went, eventually it was cheaper to convert it to LPG than replace the brain.
Don't take it to Ford, they are no longer specialists. Your best bet is to find a local fuel injection specialist.
You could check the exhaust pipe whilst a friend starts it - if it stinks of petrol then you have flooded it. If the engine does not sound like it normally does when trying to start you may have a damaged engine. If it sounds perfectly normal like you expect but it does not "fire" then this is a fuelling problem and only a garage or the AA/ RAC could help.
If you ECU is blown they are about £1K to replace.
If all you get is a tick and the engine is not turning over you could have a flat battery or loose battery terminal - see if the lights dim whilst you are trying to start it.
Cheers.

A fix or repair daily ( that's what ford stands for ) sounds like cam belt if the engine turns over fast but doesn't start this is a common problem it today's over engineered engines and if the cam belt has broke you need it going into a garage and probably won't see much change out of £1000 but equally could be down to dodgy spark plugs best to get it checked by a professional or sent me an email with more info and i might be able to advise you better

What do you mean ticking over? Do you hear one tick when you turn key to the start position, and another tick when you release the key? If so you have a bad starter. If you hear alot of ticks, clicking real fast then you have a weak battery, or bad connection on battery. Is where the wires hook to the battery corroded or green looking? If they are take them off and scrape them with a knife or wire brush, and put them back on, make sure that they are tight, if they don't make a good connection you won't get enough fire to make the starter run.

You probably have a dead battery. If the battery is changed and you still get that sound, you may have a bad starter. The sound you are hearing is probably the starter solenoid, engaging the flywheel gears. When you hear that sound but the engine does not turn over it is because the starter motor does not have enough power to turn over or the starter bearings are frozen.

join the aa or rac or something, wait 2 days then get a call out. only cost about £40 and way cheaper than having a garage collect and inspect. But your looking at some cash outlay i suspect. The manual should give you a clue as to nature of issue due to sequence of flashes/ beeps but without more info impossible to tell what is wrong, sorry.

By ticking over, I'm assuming you mean it makes a "tick tick tick" sound when you try to start it, instead of turning over. That would be a bad starter, if that were the case.

check your spark plugs or battery fluid levels first off. If the starter motor is turning over when you turn the key then its prob the plugs or the engine management computer.

firstly check that your engine is receiving a spark if it is get someone to crank it and smell exaust to see if you can smell fuel after that if you do not know much about engines i would take to a garage as you may cause more harm than good
